How do I transfer my domain?

To transfer a domain, the first step is to ensure that is is "unlocked."  This can usually be done from the control panel of the current registrar where your domain is registered.  If you do not see an option to lock/unlock the domain in their control panel, contact their support and they will be able to unlock it for you.

The second step is to ensure the contact information is accurate.  When the transfer begins, emails will be sent to the Administrative contact, and you will need to be able to receive these emails for later steps in the transfer.

The next step is to obtain an EPP (Extensible Provisioning Protocol), also called an Authorization Code.  This is usually available from your registrar's control panel, many registrars will email the code to the Administrative contact for the domain when you request it, while others will display it for you directly in the control panel.  If you have trouble obtaining this, contact your registrars support and they should be able to provide it.

Once the domain is unlocked, you have verified the contact information is current, and you have obtained your EPP code, you can begin the actual transfer process.  To begin the transfer, go to your Nine Planets account and go to the Domains > Transfer Domains to Us menu, enter the domain you wish to transfer and click Continue.  Select any options you want on the next page, and then proceed to checkout.

When the transfer is started, an email will be sent to the Administrative contact for the domain with a link to approve the transfer.  That link is where you will select that you approve the transfer, and enter your EPP code to prove you have authorization to transfer the domain.

Once that step is completed, the the transfer process goes into a 7 day waiting period.  Many registrars will also have an option in their control panel at this point to approve the transfer from their end, at which point the transfer will go ahead and proceed without needing the 7 day waiting period.  Not all registrars include that option, but many do.

After either waiting the 7 days or making the final approval from your old registrars control panel, the transfer process will be complete.
